So… 10 months ago, I went to Boracay for the first time. When I was traveling the Philippines frequently with friends, back in 2009, we avoided Boracay. That was because we were aware that it’s commercialized. Anyway, I thought of visiting it last December 2014 just to satisfy my curiosity. I had fun, and I’d say it still is beautiful. However, I can imagine how even more beautiful it was before the parties, the shops, the resorts and restaurants. It being a famous tourist destination cannot be undone. So, I just hope it can be managed more sustainably.
Just in case you didn’t catch the opinion part of the video, here’s what I said:
“However, I gotta say that I was a bit disappointed with some parts of Boracay. Like, I wish the establishments are at least 3 meters further from the water. Also, I don’t like how some charge differently for locals and foreigners – like there is a big gap. I was surprised with how food was expensive in Boracay. I mean, some are good, but some are just not good value for money. Also, I wish there is better waste management. Well, tourism comes at a price. Anyway, I won’t take away its beauty, or at least what’s left of it. The sand is indeed one of the finest. And the sunset is just beautiful. So there, it is an island you’ll either love, like, be okay with, or hate, depending on your taste and expectations. It’s never too late to make it better, or should I say, even more beautiful… Really!”
