Visayas – one of three main island groups in the Philippines, the one in the middle, just recently found itself in the midst of a super typhoon called Haiyan (local name Yolanda). The news that pops up every time I check the internet is just saddening. Not to mention just a month ago, an earthquake hit Bohol and Cebu, also parts of Visayas. In light of these deadly natural phenomena, I can’t help but recall the nice places I’ve seen in this region. Random thoughts: Leyte – home of the best Kinilaw I ever tasted (in Ocho Seafood and Grill … Continue reading Visayas: random thoughts and a call for help
I never thought I would get so busy at work that I ultimately failed in the resolution I declared in this blog earlier this year. Get this, since May, I have worked over time almost every day. And it’s not just an hour or two, sometimes I work over time for 5 hours! I was so busy that a lot of times I wasted my weekends just because my body is yearning for rest. Or is it? I admit a lack of inspiration also contributed to the past months absence in the blogosphere. Anyway, as I have learned in life, … Continue reading TJE 19: Busy.
This is a speech I prepared for a Toastmasters project recently. I thought it’s an appropriate summary of my recent travel. And for the past couple of months, I was able to make three videos about the trip. I’m sharing … Continue reading TJE 18: On the road, in a Big Country
I just uploaded a video blog shot when I just arrived at my apartment here in Seoul after a two-week vacation. This is an attempt to start a resolution (which I declare in the video): to be more active in blogging or making videos about travel or some random thought. I want to give more attention to my creativity – something I haven’t given much time to enhance since I focused on being that student who excelled in Math and Science. The thing is, for a few years now, I feel bored in being too technical. Although having a Youtube … Continue reading TJE 17: Back from a big trip + resolution
I don’t really get homesick when overseas. However, I have to admit that there are bouts of loneliness and inexplicable sadness. And I will open up even further, that it happened to me recently. That’s why a visit by my … Continue reading TJE 16: The visited at last
I did mention that more stories about my 2-week vacation in July will come, right? Oops, that was 3 months ago already! But here’s another one: After I arrived from Singapore, I had about a day to rest. Within that … Continue reading TJE 15: Quick (yes) and Easy (no!) – An Unexpected Adventure
There was not a time I remember in which I provided luxury to my parents ever since I started my career and became self-sufficient. But recently, thanks to a chance vacation, I was able to do so for my mom. I brought her to experience the Music of the Night. Chuseok, the harvest festival and a major holiday in Korea, gave an opportunity for us working here to have 6 days off from work. I grabbed the chance to take a quick vacation in the Philippines! I’ve mentioned previously that my recent home leave was travel packed, and that I … Continue reading TJE 14: Mom, the Music of the Night and my Musical Addiction
I haven’t been to Miami, but that’s one description I heard of Busan: that it’s similar to Miami. Did that get your attention? Good, but I apologize for I won’t be dwelling on that comparison. The trip to Busan was … Continue reading TJE 12: Korea’s Miami?
Weekend – a perfect chance to recharge. Yesterday, I had the best sleep in three weeks. I just arrived last Wednesday from the Philippines after a 15-day vacation. It was my second home leave and it’s far more hectic than … Continue reading TJE 11: Tired from Vacation but…
